A way of life inherent before birth for self-determination without responsibility to any authority while resisting conformity to conventional norms and expectations.
My dad was born on Halloween in 1922, and his father, born on Christmas in 1900, was shot and killed when Dad was 13. He died in the middle of the Great Depression, and my dad’s education concluded after the 5th grade. He was one of three children his mother couldn’t feed, so he and his closest sister, were farmed out to family, while the youngest full sister stayed with their mother and new step-father.
